Alicia’s Fashion Statement
Since I’ve been used to providing commentaries pertaining to celebrity fashion hits and misses, how about those with none?
So what can you say of Alicia Silverstone’s new ‘fashion statement? Well if that’s what you call it.
Alicia currently promotes PETA’s (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) campaign for vegetarianism. And in order to show the public that being a vegan helped her lose weight (and of course getting that vavavoom body), Alicia posed in nude. – Some way of presenting the ‘naked truth’, huh?!
Anyway, here’s an excerpt of the actress’ statement from PETA’s official webite:
“Like most people, I wasn’t always a vegetarian, but I’ve always loved animals. If you ever have a chance to meet a cow, pig, turkey, or goat, you will see that they are just as cute and funny as your dogs and cats and that they, too, want to live and feel love…Being vegan truly is the secret to my life’s joy and peace. I feel physically and spiritually better than I could have ever imagined knowing that I am doing everything I can to reduce animal suffering with simple lifestyle choices like being vegan, never wearing any products made from animals (like wool and leather), and buying only from companies that NEVER test their products or ingredients on animals.”
Alicia has always been regarded as one of the famous vegans, so I guess being an advocate is not so much of a surprise anymore. It’s the way she does it that’s more…err…surprising. Well probably not, I mean most PETA advocates, whether they’re famous or not, do the trend of stripping off their clothes to express themselves. And that’s one thing I admire about those advocates; their passion to send out their message and plea.
However, more than presenting Alicia Silverstone’s uber-beautiful body (as a result to being a vegan), I guess the deeper challenge here is the cause for the ad; and that is ending animal abuse. How far can we go in order to protect these animals?
And now, as Celebrity Fashion Watch tradition of deciding whether the fashion statement is a hit or a miss; it’s a one big hit for Alicia! With or without clothes, the cause is a definite hit, too.
