Eva Mendes @ the Art of Elysium Gala

Thought that the Golden Globes was the only red carpet event last week? Well, no. There’s also the 2009 Art of Elysium Gala, which also attracted its fair share of glamorous celebrities.

The Art of Elysium is a non-profit organization, which hosts its annual fete for the stars. And last Saturday’s gala was as star- studded as last year’s. So let’s look at the celebrities who strutted down the red carpet and scrutinize if they’re “Hits” or “Misses”, shall we?

For our first celebrity, the honorary guest of the night (and also the host of the evening) is none other than our dear Eva Mendez. The ever glamorous Miss Mendez, who was recognized for her vast and generous charity work, looked exceptionally, erm, “sparkly” that evening in her pale pink Christian Dior gown, with Cartier diamonds.

So, what do you think? Is it a “Hit” or a “Miss”? I know that some people would probably murder me for this, but well, for me, I would say that it’s a Miss. Sorry, Eva.

The Cartier diamonds, which overlaid the gown didn’t quite give the glamour effect that the designer obviously hoped for. Instead, they looked like dirty-gray sequins. Lose the diamonds overlay, keep the belt, and I think the outfit will be a Hit. Ok, I’ll shut up now before you guys go hunting for my blood. But to be fair to the Spirit co-star, her hair and make-up are absolutely perfect. And so is her ramrod straight posture coupled with her beautiful megawatt smile.

Eva Mendes gets dowdy

Saturday, September 27th, 2008

With pressure and stress apparently sinking in for her whirlwind tour promoting her new Macy’s Latin-inspired home décor line, Vida, Eva Mendes touches down Miami International Airport in a quite frumpy look.

Yup, the usually stylish and chic looked a little less of her hottie image donning on a dowdy floral dress grounded with Marni platform sandals. I must admit I had to take a second look at Eva and convinced myself that the one in front of me is indeed the actress.

To make matters worse, I believe the footwear doesn’t really match the already-fashion-miss dress.

Now do we really have to remind Eva that summer’s almost over and everybody’s already looking forward for the next season’s fashion trends?! Surely, Eva knows that, too, so what’s with this look?

She hits it with some class

Sunday, September 21st, 2008

Seduction with class. I guess Eva Mendes has mastered that craft quite well that we sometimes want to ask, does this girl ever look bad?

While it is fact that everyday isn’t a good day for stars in terms of fashion, I must give it to this 34-year-old American actress who seems to know how to put in her best foot in every public appearance she has.

And looking good she did as she greeted her fans yesterday (September 20) at Macys in Dadeland Mall, Florida for the launching of her Latin-inspired home décor line, Vida.

Designed by Eva herself with her business partner, George Augusto, Vida “promises five bedding styles featuring rich colors, dramatic patterns, the highest-quality fabrications and romantic touches at an affordable price.

Eva Mendes gets too much of the sparkle

Saturday, September 13th, 2008

Living a life of a Hollywood celebrity may be full of glitters and glitches but I guess nothing epitomizes this better than American actress, Eva Mendes.

Yup, attending the Cinema Society screening of her latest film, “The Women,” the 34-year-old hottie literally sparkled with her gold sequined Jenni Kayne dress and matching heels.

But while the glitters did catch our attention, the glitch here is that the frock didn’t exactly match Eva’s sexy image. In fact, I would surely think of the look as somewhat frumpy. Not too glam for a celebrity here.

The Women is a comedy film written and directed by Diane English. It stars five of Hollywood’s big names like Meg Ryan, Annette Bening, Debra Messing, Jada Pinkett Smith, and of course, Eva Mendes.

Christina Ricci, Mischa Barton, and Eva Mendes are Superheroes in Style

Wednesday, May 7th, 2008

Everybody seems to have had fantasies of becoming a superhero with some extra special super powers. And when I say everybody, I mean stars, too.

Today, in Celebrity Fashion Watch, let’s take a look at my picks of those who hit it at the Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute Gala “Superheroes: Fashion And Fantasy” in New York City.

christina ricci

First on my list would have to be Christina Ricci in her super fantastic Wonder Woman-inspired pink and red gown. The 28-year-old actress’s look literally showcases what the party’s theme is about; fashion and fantasy. This look would probably be a good inspiration in making various mind map examples.

Well speaking of mind maps, you might as well want to browse over Mappio’s wide library of FreeMind, MindManager, and JPG mind maps. For those of you who didn’t know, a mind map is a diagram used to represent ideas, words, tasks, and other items linked around a central idea or word.

And it’s on Mappio you can find a wide range of those. Aside from that, it allows you to upload your own mind map by simply creating an account on the site. So whether you are looking for a mind map for decision making, goal setting or a software for making your own, Mappio would be your best resource. Go visit the site and explore the endless possibilities of mind maps.

Mischa in Gold

Next hit celebrity fashion is Mischa Barton clad in a jaw-dropping custom-made Missoni gown with ruffled straps and a beaded bodice. Now I’ve always thought of Mischa as a fab dresser but I think this is the first time I saw her in a more daring look. And I love it!

Eva Mendes

Aside from Christina and Mischa, another celebrity fashion hit at the Gala is Eva Mendes in her gorgeous tidal bridal gown. Oh the look is so surreal like Eva literally putting on the waves. Beautiful!

And there goes my top 3 “Superheroes: Fashion And Fantasy? looks.

Eva Mendes in a surreal but un-glam look

Tuesday, April 22nd, 2008

eva-mendes-metropolitan-opera.jpg

I have always found Eva Mendes as one of Hollywood’s most lethal beauty. She is sexy, hot, and with a face that goes beyond pretty.

However, I guess coming out from rehab for a substance abuse problem have caused Eva to lose a little bit of that glow and glamorous feel in her.

Attending the Metropolitan Opera “La Fille Du Regiment? Opening Night, the 36-year-old actress was looking surreal and classy in a blue green gown accentuated with black frills. However, classy the look may be, I can’t seem to see so much elegance in it. It’s like the gown is fabulous but Eva wasn’t able to pull it off well. Her hair could do a little help and some jewelry would also be nice.

I hate to say this, but this is one dull and boring look from Eva.
