For events like the Costume Institute Gala, stars going in monochromes are never absent. No wonder fashion gurus say these should be staples in your wardrobe.

Now let us see who among the attendees of Monday’s event hit or missed with their monochrome looks.

Marisa Tomei

Clad in a vintage Adrian gown, Marisa Tomei was nothing but – well, vintage at the event. There isn’t much I can say about the look as I don’t find anything spectacular in it nor do I find anything in it to be a miss.

Eva Longoria

In a Diane von Furstenberg design, Eva Longoria definitely sizzled at the event. Talk about oh-lala, huh?! This is just one hot, hot, hot look!

Tyra Banks

I don’t know what Tyra Banks is thinking wearing this Badgley Mischka gown but whatever that is she better have a good reason. Why the gown looks so much like rubber I wonder how it feels.

Winona Ryder

There are only two words I can say with this look: effort please! Oh, this is effort already?!

Claudia Schiffer

Okay, if monochromes with an edge is the topic, I guess Claudia Schiffer’s should be one of the contenders. Although I’m not really crazy about it, I should give credit to the creativity and imagination of its maker.

Ciara

Playing black and white in a very suave way, Ciara arrived at the event in an Emilio Pucci creation. I love the fluidity of the gown and its sophistication, but I don’t think it has the wow factor in it.

Ashley Olsen

Ending this list of celebrities in monochromes is the look that really made my jaw drop in amazement. – Ashley Olsen’s ice white The Row gown. Other times I would really find this oversized gown unflattering, but Ashley did manage to own this look and made such ethereal presence.

With these stars here, I guess it still ain’t bad to be monochromatic sometimes.

When it comes to fashion sense, Ashley and Mary-Kate Olsen have always opted to stand out through daring and bold looks (read: smokey eyes, dark hues, big bangles). Thus, simplicity would probably one of those words that would never cross your mind when seeing these two.

However, in one of the rarest events in an Olsen’s day, Ashley comes out in sporting on a simple.

I have always thought of the Olsen twins as snobs. It seems like both Ashley and Mary-Kate have that aura that would make people surrounding them feel inferior (at to the laymen). You hardly see them mingle to their fans or even show any enthusiasm on their faces on photos.

However, attending the Everywhere At Once cocktail party and screening hosted in New York City last Tuesday, clad in a tone-on-tone ensemble from her own collection, The Row, Ashley Olsen was photographed (in a very rare moment) wearing a big smile on her face with jeweler to the stars David Yurman. Ashley Olsen smiling?! Unbelievable!

After vindicating herself to the public wearing chic and simple yet fashionable clothes lately, Mary-Kate Olsen probably got tired with the ‘act’ and went back to being quirky again. Talk about disappointment…

Clad in a Chloé floral gown topped with a fur jacket during The American Museum of Natural History’s Annual Winter Dance in New York, Mary-Kate’s look is just so disturbing. Gee… I thought she’s over with looking so dirty and weird? Guess I was wrong for even thinking or maybe she just got too carried away with the event.

I think she would’ve pulled it off well had she sported some simple frock then pair it with diamond accessories or some diamond fashion pendants. I would’ve recommended Mary-Kate to check Diamond Ocean and feast herself with their wide array of customizable products, from gold to platinum, silver, and diamond.

I’m sure even a high-class celebrity like her would love the site’s jewelry pieces like a ¼ carat diamond sign pendant in white gold or a sapphire in yellow gold pendant. I certainly think Mary-Kate would look lovely and dazzling with any of those pendants that would fit her personality and style. But please, not this kind of style here.

Please, oh please Mary-Kate, don’t ever try dressing up this way again.

Having been notorious for their loud and ‘unique’ fashion sense, Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen have often been subjects to media’s scrutiny. And of course that include Celebrity Fashion Watch here where they’ve been featured number of times in the fashion disasters category.

However, I guess the New Year was a sign for the twins to mellow down their eccentric way of styling. If you haven’t noticed, the two have recently been dressing quite impressively every time they go out in public.

Leaving the Chanel Fall Winter 2008/09 Fashion show in Paris, France the sisters were a picture of style and confidence without the dirty raccoon look. Well thanks to their stylish and chic sunglasses, Mary-Kate and Ashley sure looked more mature than ever.

I actually love it when these two tone down from being “dirty dressers� to classy and glam chicks. This style suits them well.

Contrary to what most readers of this blog would think, Celebrity Fashion Watch has really has nothing against the Olsen sisters. Despite the fact that several of my posts are somehow criticizing the twins’ sense of fashion, this does not really mean that I don’t like them. I was in fact a fan during the twins’ Two of a Kind days.

Anyway, to show that I can also give credit to an Olsen fashion, then this is it.

Arriving at the Art of Elysium 10th Anniversary Gala at Vibiana in Los Angeles, Ashley Olsen is just magnificent in an all-black look. I actually love the spunk brought by her Rick Owens leather jacket and those few ropes of pearls and gold around her neck. And while I was ranting about her dirty look with her raccoon eyes on my previous posts, I guess Ashley just pulled it off this time making perfect beautiful smoky eyes.

Well I just hope Ashley continues to bring the best in her fashion statements in the coming events. As for Mary-Kate, we are waiting for your turn…

I don’t know with these stars lately putting a dirty trend; and that dirty is meant literally. There are Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen – the twins who wear stinky hair, oily face, and raccoon eyes. And now, here’s another stinky look from supermodel Kate Moss (the title was purposely done for emphasis).

Okay, she might want to look hip and cool like a rock star with these Shaggy black and white coat and knee-high boots at the Led Zeppelin concert in London, but dang, it ain’t just working.

Just like the twins, Kate might want to consider getting herself a shampoo, a hair brush, and a 3-hour bath.

Well she could keep the boots as they are cool enough but the jacket can just go back to her wardrobe and say bye bye.

Whew… Didn’t I just mention trying to be nice yesterday?

Let’s play a game, kiddies, and try to figure out what the hell is going on here.

I think Mary-Kate (er. . .Ashley? I don’t like this constant changing of the hair color. Okay, the one on the left. My left.) just came from a boxing match at this hot new hairdresser’s, where all the little social girls went swatting at each other, and the winner got free color and a blow out by this hot new hairdresser, and Lefty here was not that fortunate girl. That explains everything- the red-and-gold Champion of the World robe, the dirty, lank, un-touched-up hair, and the black eyes.

And Squinty over there on the right, my right, just came from a costume party, which she attended as Howard Hughes during his little-known (but oddly in character) drag-queen spy phase. That’s why she looks like a very suspicious transvestite pilot from 1944.

And Bob? Well, his dad died sometime this week, and there is a heart in here someplace, a bit black and shriveled, yes, but still beating with a modicum of humanity, so no jokes about Bob. But, Bob? Could we do something about these Olsens?
