Color Me Blue: Stars in blue at the Costume Institute Gala
Had I not known that Costume Institute Gala’s theme this year is “The Model as Muse: Embodying Fashion”, I would really think it’s “Color Me Blue at its Best”, why blue sure has been the color of the night. From electric to royal, light, metallic, blue has definitely been in the air throughout the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York last Monday (May 4).
Unfortunately, not all of these ‘blue ladies’ were able to really pull off their looks and make it a hit. Let’s check out who did and who didn’t.
Cindy Crawford
With supermodels in full force for the event, it is of course impossible to miss the ultimate supermodel herself Cindy Crawford who rocked the red carpet with her cobalt blue Versace Fall 2009 gown. My only problem with the look here is that I still could not find any ‘wow’ factor in it. It’s a hit of course in terms of Celebrity Fashion Watch perspective but not so much in terms of the night’s theme.
Blake Lively
From the roster of supermodels present in the event, it is actually a surprise that it is with a relatively neophyte actress I am more pleased. Blake Lively has never looked this good. In her teal one-sleeved, backless, thigh-high split Versace Fall 2009 dress, I just couldn’t help but be wowed!
Brooke Shields
In a Calvin Klein-designed gown, I must admit Brooke Shields’s look at the event is one of those that really bored me. Why there was nothing extraspecial nor surprising in the look. This may not be a miss but I guess I’d better get a miss and get the public’s attention than have nothing at all.
Heidi Klum
Trying to cover her baby bump, mom-to-be for the fourth time, Heidi Klum both looked odd and glam in her navy blue J.Mendel dress. Odd because I think there has been too much material used to cover the bump, but glam at the same time because Heidi can sure pull anything off.
