Michelle Obama Wears Jason Wu
Jason Wu’s place in fashion history is set, thanks to First Lady, Michelle Obama. What was his reaction when he found out that none less than Mrs. O. wore his design at the Inauguration ball? “I found out when the whole world found out,” he said. “I said, ‘It looks white. It looks like mine…’ I had a box of pizza and I nearly fell over. I was sitting there with my friends, and they were screaming.” The 26-year old is a Taiwan-born, Manhattan-based American fashion designer. Okay, enough with the trivia and on with the fashion!
“She’s so statuesque. I knew white would look great on her. White is a powerful color. I wanted to show off her arms, but not too much,” was the designer’s take on the gown.
Michelle Obama sure looked classy and confident in the one-shouldered ivory silk chiffon gown. Many critics raved for this dress…and I’m going to be one of them! She simply looks good in it. Though frankly when I first saw it, I was “what’s with the detail?!” because it looks like it has the same details as the curtains I have on my bedroom. But when you give it a once-over and look at it closely, you realize that it really is beautifully made. And in Mrs. O’s statuesque figure and toned arms were well accented by the gown and she struck the balance between looking glam and at the same time practical. So, it’s a HIT! If you think differently, then you can tell me too.
This look on the other hand, is another Hit-Miss. I love the color on her though. The teal Jason Wu dress with an assymetrical cardigan by Japanese designer, Junya Watanabe was worn by the First Lady to the Royal Opera House in London. She sure gave a unique twist to the classic cardigan, but again, I’m apprehensive over the slightly balloon-cut skirt. If it were slimmer, then it might have worked out better.
