Transition of a Queen
Around late 80s when a school teacher at Irvington High School made her entrance to the music industry as a beatboxer for the rap group Ladies Fresh.
Now, after several award winning hits and nominations from various movies, Dana Elaine Owens known to all as Queen Latifah is surely one big star in Hollywood. And from her debut in the entertainment industry to the present, Latifah’s transition is truly remarkable. From a rap royalty to a beloved movie star, the changeover is subtle but really impressive.
Let’s do a little look back at “The Queen’s� fashion makeover through the years…

In 1992, the rapper sports that washed look letting her hair down in cornrows. Following that look was regal attire in 1994 that set her apart from other rappers. “I didn’t want to wear gold chains and call myself MC Latifah,â€? she has said of her Afrocentric look. “I’m the queen.” Latifah often state during interviews.
Having a major role in 1996 in “Living Single,� she maintained sleek locks with her fave QP gel. Meanwhile in 2001, Queen Latifah looks glamorous with a help of lip liner blended with gloss.
As “Bringing Down the House� leading lady in 2003, she completes her chic look by donning diamonds here and there.
Finally, in 2007, hitting the big screen in “Hairspray� and “Life Support,� Queen Latifah is glowing and fabulous with her brunette hair and sun-kissed look.
And so they say that the only thing constant in this world is change… it definitely worked well with The Queen.
